Swimrun Clinics

SIGN-UP FOR TOTALLY FREE SWIMRUN CLINICS at [email protected]!

Our clinics are intended for you to get your feet wet-- to try swimming in runners and running in a wetsuit, even if you have not registered for our event! For this unusual summer, we are scheduling several totally free, Sunday morning swimrun clinics for you, organized and coordinated by James and Caroline Greenwood at Innovative Fitness:

  • July 12, 2020 at 8 AM at Sarsons Beach
  • July 26, 2020 at 8 AM at Kinsmen Park

These clinics are a great way to try out this crazy new way to race an endurance multisport, Europa style!

On Sunday, July 12, we will be meeting at Sarsons Beach at 8 AM to do a figure-8 training session, consisting of 3 runs and 2 swims.  These can be done solo, and are part of the outbound section of the long course Urban SwimRun. The total distance of this workout is about 6K (4.4K of running, 1650 m of swimming)--at total of about 60-75 minutes of training.  This clinic will be repeated on Sunday, August 30, 2020.

On Sunday, July 26, 2020, we will meet again for a clinic, this time at Kinsman Park at 8AM to do another figure 8 training session on a different part of the race course, again 3 runs (1.3K, 2.3K and 0.65K) and 2 swims (650m and 450m), total distance of about 4.5 K. This clinic will introduce you to the first part of both the short and the long course event. It will be repeated on September 6, one week before the event.

More clinics will be scheduled in August, likely August 9th and 23rd, depending on interest.  One of these will start at Rotary Beach, and one at Gyro for racers to experience the rest of the course.  For late registrants, there will be a clinic on the last two weekends before race day as well--August 30 and September 6th. Check back here for updated information.

All you have to do is REGISTER with INNOVATIVE FITNESS, and then show up with all of your regular open water swimming and running gear (no need for a bike!)--your wetsuit, a swim cap, goggles, and runners--a little before 8 AM to get oriented.  No partner necessary. A brief orientation will be provided.

You can even bring paddles and a pull buoy for your swims if you want, or try tethering with a partner. In swimrun races, any equipment you use on the course you will have to carry with you all the way to the finish line.

Both clinics allow you to just do half the workout if you prefer.

So...  If you are up for the newest form of open water/adventure racing, come on out to give it a try. It is easier than you think.

If you have any questions about the clinics, contact James and Caroline at [email protected].  Otherwise, check out the rest of this website where both courses are outlined, or contact race organizers at [email protected].
