The 2020 EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
The 18K Sprint (long course) and the 9K SuperSprint (short course) both start in the middle of the field area at Kinsmen Park at 8 AM sharp, on Sunday morning. There is plenty of free parking nearby, both on both Abbott St and Patterson Ave at that time.
Please arrive at Kinsmen Park at least 30 minutes before the race start, and have all of your equipment with you. (Wetsuits are the only required equipment). All equipment you use in the race MUST be carried along and finished with. Check out our Gear page to review what equipment you might want to take with you, or use it as a checklist. Although there are directional signs all along the course, we expect all athletes to be familiar with the entire course that you are racing, as well as the Rules of Urban SwimRun prior to arrival. The maps and descriptions of the short course SuperSprint and the long course Sprint are on this website under INFO and are downloadable and/or printable. As well, participation in the clinics will provide you some first-hand experience of several legs of both courses.
Before the race start, please check in with our race officials at the start line to pick up your race kit. We will confirm which course you are doing, and who your partner is. We will also confirm what equipment you are carrying with you, since any equipment you carry must accompany you throughout the race to the finish.
You will be provided with:
- a numbered race jersey and color-coded cap that must be worn during your race. The jerseys are to be returned at the end of the race.
- an optional whistle and a lanyard to use if you or your teammate have any emergency on the course.
- a custom swimrun drawstring bag and a silicone cap that are yours to keep.
If you have any nutritional items that you wish to be made available to you at the Aid Station (at Rotary Beach for both courses), please give it to the volunteer in charge of the Aid stations, who will take it to Rotary Beach ahead of your arrival there.
There will be one Aid Station on the course (at Rotary Beach), which is at the turnaround point for the short course, and halfway along both the out and the return portions of the long course (therefore it can be accessed twice by the long course racers). There will also be an Aid Station at the long course turnaround point at Bellevue Creek, and at the finish line. All of these will offer the following:
- F2C Electrolyte drink and chewable gummy bears
- Coffee, cookies, muffins, gummy bears, and F2C recovery drink will be available at the finish line only
You are free to take along any nutrition, such as gels, on the course, but please do not litter anywhere on the course. There will be garbage cans at the Aid Stations and finish line.
There are washrooms available at Kinsman Park, Boyce-Gyro Beach Park, Rotary Beach Park, and Sarsons Beach.
A formal timing clock will again be available at the finish line. Although we encourage all athletes to use their own multi-sport timing and GPS watches, be aware that the margin of error in measured sections of the course will vary from one system to another, and from the distances we have outlined in the course maps using Google Earth.
In the weeks following the race, there will be an online post-race questionnaire sent to all participants for feedback, to be used to make course improvements as needed.
There will be volunteers all along the course, at all of the swim entry and exit points. They are there to properly direct you appropriately on each section of the course; they will have cell phone contact with race organizers at the Start/finish line if you are in need of any assistance. Please be respectful of their willingness to support all of the participants on your race day. If you have any friends or family that wish to help us on race day, please advise! We can always use a few more bodies, even if it is only to photograph or video the event.
There will be a team picture of all participants prior to the start of the race. Please be ready for this no later than 7:50 AM, next to the race official tent. We want to immortalize all of you!
Please arrive at City Park at least 45 minutes before the race start, for an orientation meeting at the Race officials tent in the middle of the center field of Kinsmen Park. Please review the details of the course and the rules on the swimrun website prior to arrival. Please bring your charged up cell phone!
We will need volunteers at every Beach Access where a swim either ends or begins. Several of these access points* are used both in the out and the return portions of the race. Volunteers will be asked to properly direct participants appropriately according to the racecourse outlined on the website and at the start line. Volunteers will also be asked to relay any urgent or emergent situations affecting any of our participants to event officials promptly, and to come to the aid, where possible, of any athlete in need of assistance. Volunteers must have a cell phone with them, preferably a car at their disposal, and have a race official's phone numbers easily available (as a "favorite"?). These spots will include:
- *Lake Ave Beach Access
- *Cadder Ave Beach Access
- *Boyce Gyro Beach (north and south end)
- *Rotary Beach/Aid Station (north of the washroom building)
- Eldorado (north end of Capozzi Road, next to the boat launch)--optional
- *Bluebird Beach Access
- *COSBA Beach Access
- Sarsons Beach
- Bellevue Creek Outflow
- Start/Finish Line Aid Station
